It’s summertime and the heat has come with a vengeance. Which means it’s the perfect time to grab your kids and head to your local splash pad.
Seriously, whoever came up with the idea of splash pads is a genius. They are the perfect place to gather with friends to let your kids enjoy fun in the water without worrying about drowning or water bills. Most splash pads even have a few fun water features to keep your kids busy and happy no matter their age.
When we go we usually go for a couple hours at a time. Which is why it is important to come prepared. Here are my top #6 Splash pad essentials you will want to pack before taking your kids this Summer.
Due to how cool and refreshing the water can be at the splash pad, kids don’t often feel the Sun burning their skin till it’s too late. Make sure the sunscreen you use is safe for kids, as well as waterproof so it doesn’t just wash off while they are splashing in the water.
As fun as playing in the water is, there will be times your kids want to sit and relax in the shade. (often while enjoying something to eat.) If you are planning on spending several hours at your Splash pad and it doesn’t have a lot of shady trees or pavilions around it you might want to consider bringing your own. Whether a canopy, a sports tent or even just a large umbrella. This will also give you a place in the shade to sit and watch your kids play in the water.
Snacks are always a good idea when taking your kids anywhere. Most kids don’t just get hungry they get hangry. Having some cool drinks and snacks in a cooler can help save you from many a potential hangry meltdown.
When we go to the splash pad we like to pack a few small water toys like buckets, cups, and other water toys for the kids to play with. It really makes their water time so much more fun! Just make sure you remember what you pack so you know you have everything when it’s time to go.
Since more often than not you drive to the splash pad, it’s a good idea to bring towels for your kids to dry off with before getting back into your vehicle. Your seats will thank you for this consideration.
6-Your own swimsuit/water friendly clothes
Yes, it is nice to sit back and relax in the shade with your cell phone or a good book while your kids enjoy the splash pad. However, you never know when you might be called upon to join them in the cool water. Who knows you might find you really enjoy the cool refreshing water more than the shade.
Down East Basics has some awesome casual clothes and swimsuits you can choose from…hint, hint…
As you take your kids to the splash pad this Summer don’t forget to take some pictures. Our kids grow up soo quickly and you want something to remember these happy times together while they were young.
